Joan was born and raised in Puerto Rico until she was 10 years old. She came to the United States along with her mom Johanna and siblings eager to learn another language about 12 years ago.
She graduated from Nueva Esperanza Academy Charter High School with High Honors in 2012. During her first two years she was part of the Aspira club, where she was involved in organizing and doing activities with kindergartners and first graders at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Charter school. She was also involved in the fitness club, was football manager and majored in drama. During her past time Joan attended Barbizon modeling and acting school and participated in a pageant where she won 2nd finalist!
Joan loves animals and science. She went to Manor College where she studied Veterinary Technology and received an Associates Degree in Science.
Last summer Joan worked at Mi Casita for a couple months and she loved it so much she started working full time after her externship. She enjoys seeing the growth of the students and herself as well: ” The kids have had a big impact on me. I’ve grown attached to them and the whole Mi Casita Familia.They teach me something new each and every day!”
